LEADERSHIP
LEADERS IN
TRAINING (L.I.T)
BGC West Scarborough's Leaders in Training (L.I.T) program is a flagship initiative offering youth valuable volunteer opportunities within our organization.
Applicants undergo an interview-based selection process followed by comprehensive training sessions spanning several weeks. This training equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to be exceptional volunteers at our BGC West Scarborough Summer Camps.
Through their Summer Camp placements, our L.I.T's gain firsthand experience in the responsibilities and expectations associated with BGC West Scarborough staff. They are afforded many opportunities to hone and exhibit their leadership abilities. At the end of Summer, eligible L.I.T's are encouraged to explore potential pathways for joining our team.
The application process for our L.I.T program begins prior to the Summer season in April.

OTHER LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
This program assists youth from our community in finding volunteer opportunities and respective trainings. These volunteer initiatives may even tie back to our issues of interest (community initiatives) our youth council are focused on.
A formal group of youth leaders, meeting once or twice a week.
This group provides the voice for youth at the West Scarborough Community Centre. Participants are engaged in decision making, typically involving current issues of interest to the them and their peers. The council also plans and organizes community initiatives surrounding our areas of interest.
This program provides youth aged 11+ with the leadership skills required to be a Red Cross Certified babysitter. Prospective youth go through a full-day to recieve their Babysitting certification.
Through the Red Cross, interested youth in our community may learn the fundamentals of First Aid & CPR.
The course helps youth identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in their environment, recognize emergencies, and make appropriate decisions when rendering first aid care.
To learn more about the application process for each of these initiatives contact our Youth Supervisor atyouth@wsncc.org.

The WSNCC operates on land that is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. We also acknowledge all Treaty peoples – including those who came here as settlers – as migrants either in this generation or in generations past and those who came here involuntarily, particularly as a result of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
