We were happy to welcome Scarborough Southwest MP @dolybegumssw to WSNCC last week! ☀️💚 Doly has always shown up for West Scarborough and we’re grateful to have a representative who understands how important programs like Canada Summer Jobs are for communities like ours. Canada Summer Jobs helps us bring on an incredible team of young staff every summer, giving them meaningful paid work experience while ensuring our campers have dedicated, passionate people in their corner all season long. That support makes a huge impact and it means even more knowing our community has advocates like Doly looking out for us. Between yoga sessions with @thecanadiancourageproject , learning kickboxing basics, a trip to the ROM, taking the field at Rogers Centre, and getting out on the water for sailing and windsurfing, our SKY girls have been busy this summer and we love to see it. ❤️💪 SKY is our all-girls summer camp at WSNCC, a space built specifically for young women to grow, lead, and find their people. Congrats to our Kindergarten Readiness program graduates! 🎓❤️ Earlier this month we celebrated children in our EarlyON programs who completed the Kindergarten Readiness program and are heading into their first years of Kindergarten this September. This is just one of the many free programs offered through EarlyON at WSNCC; designed to give West Scarborough children the foundation they need before they walk through those school doors for the first time. WSNCC operates on land that is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. We also acknowledge all Treaty peoples – including those who came here as settlers – as migrants either in this generation or in generations past and those who came here involuntarily, particularly as a result of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
