  • Career Focus

    The Career Focus program is a federally funded program (through Service Canada) targeting youth aged 18 – 30 who have graduated from a post-secondary institution, focusing on graduates in the STEM fields.


    About the program:


    Through this program, job seekers are paired with a Program Coordinator and Client Specialist in order to connect with them with full-time employment in their field of study. Once placed into employment, participants of the program continue to receive follow-up support for 6 months subsequent to their initial job placement to ensure stability, job maintenance, and overall job satisfaction.


    Through Service Canada’s funding, each participant accepted into the program is eligible for a wage-incentive to help their transition into employment, which is used to help employers on-board and train these higher educated and skilled individuals.


    Participant Eligibility:


    • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Convention Refugee (Legally entitled to work in Canada)
    • Recently received a University Degree or College Diploma (preferably in the STEM field)
    • Be between the ages of 18 and 30 years
    • Have one or more barrier(s) to employment

  • Gateway Training Assistance

    The Gateway Training Assistance program is a Federally funded program (through Service Canada) targeting youth aged 18-30, who have minimal education and are looking for skills enhancement training in order to further their employment opportunities.


    About the program:


    Through this program, participants will attend a Private Career College for up to 12 weeks of skills development. Individuals accepted into the program are eligible for funds up to 75% of their tuition fees. Examples of skills training courses include: Construction, Welding, Electrical, Plumbing and Floral design.


    Upon completion of the skills development course, all participants are paired with a Program Coordinator and Client Specialist, to connect them with employment in their area of study. Once placed into employment, participants of the program continue to receive follow-up support for 14 weeks to ensure stability, job maintenance, and overall job satisfaction.


    Each participant accepted into the program is eligible for a wage-incentive, which is used to help employers on-board and train these new graduates.


    ​Participant Eligibility:

    • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Convention Refugee (Legally entitled to work in Canada)
    • Not currently collecting EI in the past 3 years
    • Be between the ages of 18 and 30 years
    • Not currently enrolled in school

  • Opportunities Fund Program

    The Opportunities Fund Program (OF) is a Federally funded program through Service Canada for individuals who self-identify as having barriers to employment, including mental health (anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.), learning, physical and/or developmental disabilities. 

    Participants must be over 18 years of age and ready for either part or full-time employment.


    About the program:


    Some individuals will be able to attend skills training in a Private Career College for up to 12 weeks. All participants will receive support from a Program Coordinator to find meaningful employment.

  • Ready to Work

    The Ready to Work program is a Federally funded program (through Service Canada) targeting youth aged 18-30, looking to gain practical full-time employment experience in their field of interest. 

    This program is specifically for youth who are out of school, and do not plan on returning to school within 12 months.


    About the Program:


    Youth who are job ready are referred to the Program Coordinator for intake and assessment.


    Once accepted, clients are placed in a 4 week employment and life skills training program. Upon successfuly completion, participants continue to work with both the Program Coordinator and Client Specialist, to find and maintain a quality employment opportunity.


    Each participant accepted into the program is elligible for a wage incentive which is used to help employers on-board and train these individuals.


    ​Participant Eligibility include:


    • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Convention Refugee (Legally entitled to work in Canada)
    • Not currently receiving EI in the past 3 years
    • Be a youth between the ages of 18 – 30 who are out of school and are not planning to return to school within 12 months

  • Age Advantage 45+ Program

    The Age Advantage 45+ Program is an eight (8) week in-class training program funded through the City of Toronto, designed for mature clients who are looking to enter or re-enter the workforce. Participants will work individually and within group assignments with a Program Coordinator to determine their career goals.


    About the program:


    Clients will participate in week by week programming that includes a variety of workshops that focus on:


    • Positive life choices
    • Current educational and/or training courses available
    • Career paths and self-exploration

    Upon completion of the Age Advantage program the participant will be enrolled in a suitable training course, education program or have secured employment.


    Participant Eligibility include:


    • Currently in receipt of Ontario Works
    • Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee (Legally entitled to work in Canada)
    • Experienced 3+ years of unemployment
    • Be a mature adult over the age of 45

  • Life Mapping

    Life Mapping is a eight (8) week in-class training program, funded through the City of Toronto. This program is focused on helping individuals of all ages to gain a greater understanding of the career options and training opportunities available. In this career-exploration program, clients will participate in a week to week program that includes several training workshops in a classroom setting.

  • Gateway’s Security Guard Training Program

    Gateway’s Security Guard Training Program is funded through the City of Toronto, for individuals who are in receipt of Ontario Works. In addition Gateway is funded through ESDC to train and certify out-of-school youth, not in receipt of OW.  All participants must be over 18 years of age, who are interested in obtaining a Security Guard License through the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and working as a Security Guard.


    About the program:


    The program consists of 6 weeks of training to meet the requirements to take and pass the Ministry exam and become a Licensed Security Guard. You will also receive First Aid / CPR-C, Smart Serve, WHMIS, AODA, Harm Reduction-Naloxone Administration, Handcuffing and Baton Training and Occupational Health and Safety Act certificates.


    The program involves various delivery methods such as lessons, training, workshops, job shadowing and networking events. Participants will learn to create a verbal business card, a resume, a cover letter, a portfolio and a LinkedIn profile. 

    After the 6 weeks, participants will meet with the Program Staff once per week until they are employed. 


    Participant Eligibility include:


    • Currently in receipt of Ontario Works, OR Out of school and under the age of 30
    • Not in receipt of Employment Insurance
    • Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee (Legally entitled to work in Canada)
    • Have 2 valid pieces of Government ID (Health Cards and SIN cards do not qualify)
    • Have no criminal record
    • Willing to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
    • Strong English, both written and spoken
    • Be over the age of 18

  • Online Security Guard & Private Investigator Training

    This is a self-directed training program that you do at your own pace. The Security Guard training is a minimum of 40 hours (including First Aid & CRP-C ) and the Private Investigator training is a minimum of 50 hours. 


    Online Security Guard Training:


    You will receive First Aid & CPR-C, Smart Serve, WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety Act certifications.

    The cost for this program is $225.00 (cash or email transfer), includes one day hands on training of First Aid / CPR C. Once payment has been received you will be registered for training and will be emailed a link with a username and password to access the online training. You must complete a minimum of 40 (Ministry mandated) hours of training, including the 6 hours of First Aid / CPR. Cost does not include the exam and licensing fees.


    Online Private Investigator Training:

    The cost for this program is $170.00 (cash or email transfer). Once payment has been received you will be registered for training and will be emailed a link with a username and password to access the online training. You must complete a minimum of 50 (Ministry mandated) hours of training. The cost does not include the exam and licensing fees.


    Gateway also offers the following courses:


    • Use of Force (Handcuffing and Baton Training) $100.00
    • WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety $20.00
    • Smart Serve $50.00

    These courses are not mandatory but can be helpful in gaining employment in the Security field.

    • 18 years of age or older
    • Have 2 pieces of government ID (Health Cards and SIN cards do not qualify)
    • Have no criminal record
    • Strong English both written and spoken

Toronto Youth Job Corps

The Toronto Youth Job Corps program provides services to youth ages 16 - 29 who would not readily gain access to the job market or skills training. Life skills, counselling, employability workshops, "hands on" experience and placement with employers greatly increases the chance for success. During this 21 - 29 week program youth gain support from the staff and their peers.

Job Corps operates in two phases; the Life Skills / pre-employment phase and the work placement component:


Life Skills/Pre-Employment (runs for 5 weeks)

Gaining valuable on-the-job experience painting a not-for-profit site. Participants are paid for these five weeks.

Attending a series of workshops on career planning, resume writing, financial management, job maintenance and many other topics to prepare participants for the world of work.


Work Placement

Participants who complete the five week pre-employment phase are eligible for a wage subsidy with a participating employer in a field of interest. The subsidy can run for up to twenty-four weeks.

    More about Toronto Youth Job Corps

    This program is funded by and the City of Toronto.



    Job Corps can provide eligible employer with:


    • An eager staff member who has already completed five weeks of pre-employment skills building, including a simulated work experience.

    • The possibility of a wage subsidy of up to 60% of minimum wage.

    • Minimal "Red Tape"; We can assist employers with filling out forms. We attempt to make the transition for the employers and employee as seamless as possible.

    • An opportunity to make a positive impact on the life of a young person and a major contribution to the betterment of the community.
